Laboratory Challenges Today
  • Too many samples for laboratory capacity
  • Too little time to meet laboratory productivity goals
  •  Inconsistent data reliability due to multiple operators and variables
  • Complex, excessive sample manipulation with current sample processing
  • Analyte loss resulting from sample transfer, dry-down, reconstitution, other steps
  • Sensitivity challenges due to difficulty of assays and analyte loss (as above)
  • Underusage of expensive analyzers (e.g., mass spectrometers)

In addition:

  • Many clients are unaware that these issues can be fixed
  • Many clients are unsure what solutions exist to address the issues
  • Many clients appreciate guidance on even the first steps to solve these problems
iChrom Solutions

Imagine the Difference…

  • Fully-automated sample prep and analysis (continuous operation)

  • Reliability of decades-tested instrument-based (versus human-based) processes

  • Excess capacity – to handle new lab growth or “stat” situations

  • Superior – yet simpler for the user - sample cleanup due to advanced on-line technology

Add to this – a credible and trustworthy partner who guarantees your success with our provided-solutions, to meet your objectives.

This is what iChrom Solutions means to you.

Who is iChrom Solutions?

We are a knowledgeable and experienced integrator of systems, modules, and software for sample preparation, on-line SPE, HPLC and UHPLC. iChrom has over 16 years of working closely with laboratories to create optimum, integrated automation solutions for their technology needs, applications, and budgets.

What do we provide?

iChrom Solutions provides hardware, software, guidance, service, and support for integrated laboratory automation – focusing on full-automation of sample preparation and UHPLC separations.

Our Suppliers

iChrom Solutions is the North American exclusive dealer for a number of instrument and software solutions (for the complete list, click the Products tab in the main menu above.). We work only with long-established, world-class technology suppliers of UHPLC pumps, autosamplers, automated on-line SPE equipment, mass spectrometers, accessories, control software, and other modules.

SupplierProductsAbout the Supplier
Axel Semrau, GmbH & Co.CHRONECT Symbiosis Systems, CHRONECT Modules, CHRONOS SoftwareFor more than 35 years Axel Semrau has been active in development, distribution and support for sample preparation and chromatography, chemical synthesis, and application-optimized workstations. The company develops its own hardware and software to provide unique and robust solutions for sample prep, chromatography, and instrument control.
KNAUER Wissenschaftliche Geräte GmbHAnalytical HPLC/UHPLC Chromatography SystemsBased in Berlin, KNAUER has been serving the sciences since 1962. Knauer develops and manufactures scientific instruments of superior quality for liquid chromatography systems and components, including:
Microsaic Systems4500 MiD® miniature/portable quadrupole mass spectrometerMicrosaic Systems plc (AIM: MSYS) develops chip-based, bench-top and point-of-analysis mass spectrometry (MS) instruments that are designed to improve the efficiency of pharmaceutical R&D and manufacturing. Microsaic works with established global life science companies for new solutions to help develop small molecule and novel biologic (peptides, antibodies) medicines.
Microsaic’s core product, the 4500 MiD®, is a robust and compact MS system, retaining the functionality of larger conventional MS systems; yet is easier to use by non-specialists, consumes less energy and has lower running costs.

We are specialists at combining best-in-class modules and sub-systems into fully-integrated, fully-automated solutions. Our approach is based on comprehensive, thorough discussions with end users, client technology experts, lab managers, and financial buyers - to ensure creation of a solution that meets the needs of all stakeholders on the client side.

We have integrated, fully-automated system placements in virtually every major market category of sample prep/liquid chromatography, including:

  • Pharmaceutical
  • Clinical
  • Forensic
  • Food/Agriculture
  • Environmental

In addition, our systems are used for critical reference applications, including PFOS/PFOA as performed in government and environmental laboratories, and provide full capabilities to address current applications of interest; for example, those facing drug-testing laboratories such as opioid abuse/pain management, recreational and designer drugs, novel designer cannabinoids, and many others.

Many companies offer automation for various sample preparation processes. Perhaps the most common question we receive at iChrom Solutions is, “What makes on-line SPE so special? The answer has a few main parts:

  1. SPE in general is widely-accepted as the highest-selectivity technique for maximum sample cleanup (i.e., resulting in the purest extracts with the fewest interferences). Because it is a chromatographic technique, SPE can take advantage of slight molecular differences in sample components to isolate them from one another, unlike liquid/liquid extraction or protein precipitation.
  2. Because on-line SPE cartridges (CHRONECT HySphere) are processed under pressure (like HPLC columns), it is possible to use microparticulate packings, which means a) higher-efficiency elutions with smaller volumes, b) higher capture efficiencies, requiring less sorbent than off-line approaches, c) compatibility for direct elution from the extraction cartridge into the analytical column. This means zero analyte loss due to dry-downs, reconstitutions, vessel transfers, etc.
  3. Our latest on-line SPE technology is even compatible with UHPLC analyses, allowing cartridge elutions at up to 1,000 bar (~15,000 psi). Try doing that with an off-line column!
  4. Full automation. In many cases the user simply places the raw liquid sample into the sample-handler vial, and pushes “go”. The system takes it from there, from further raw sample processing (e.g., internal standard addition, dilute and mix, etc.), to complete extraction protocols on the high-performance cartridge, through the analytical process. All with integrated control via CHRONOS software…including interface with the mass spectrometric detector.

UHPLC is the unquestioned leader in advanced liquid chromatography separation techniques. The high-pressures provided by UHPLC pumps (up to ~18,000 psi/~1200 bar) allow for columns with sub-2 micron particles for previously-unseen efficiencies and separation speeds. iChrom Solutions provides complete UHPLC systems with advanced pumps and highly-configurable, flexible autosamplers to perform the necessary additional tasks needed for integration with on-line SPE modules (e.g., handling not only finished, but raw samples).

At iChrom Solutions we pride ourselves on standing by our customers via our dedicated hardware/software service and support. In addition to service upon request, we offer a number of service contracts with flexible options to meet your specific laboratory needs.
